On January 17, Facebook users (1, 2, 3), including lawyer Irakli Zakareishvili, shared a video claiming to be taken at the World Economic Forum in Davos. The speaker in the video addresses the founder of the World Economic Forum Klaus Schwab, who is sitting nearby, with insulting words, after which Schwab leaves the panel. One user shared the video in the Facebook group “No to controlled Digital Currency.”
The disseminated video is altered and has satirical content. The “speaker” himself published it on social media along with a number of satirical posts.
The primary source of the shared video is the person shown on it. Musician and satirist Damon Imani posted an identical video on his X (formerly Twitter) account on January 17 with the caption: “BREAKING: New WEF participant does the unthinkable at 2024 Davos Meeting.” In the continuation of the post (the so-called thread), the author points out that his video is satirical: “Satire, but true,” he writes.
Later on, Imani shared another satirical video on Instagram, as if he was apologizing for his speech and had signs of physical injury.
The video, altered by Damon Imani, depicts the second day of the World Economic Forum in Davos on January 16. At this meeting, Klaus Schwab was on a panel with the President of the Swiss Confederation, Viola Amherd. That’s when they get up together to leave the panel.
In addition to the viral claims, observing the video shows that in many shots, the image of Damon Imani is disproportionate and does not match the background. Also, he has an additional microphone attached to his clothes, which is not seen on other forum speakers.
Claims related to the founder of the World Economic Forum, Klaus Schwab, have been verified by “Myth Detector” in the past as well. For details, see:
