On November 15, a video showing how the call to “Stand with Ukraine” on the billboard is replaced by the call to “Stand with Israel” was disseminated on social media. The Ukrainian flag disappears on the screen and the Israeli flag appears instead. At the end of the video, we see the logo of ABC News with the accompanying captions “Watch the news”; “Stay in trend.” According to the author of the post, the video was shot on the streets of New York and reflects “the changing American priorities”.
The video was also distributed on Russian-language websites (1;2;3;4).
The disseminated video is fabricated. The company responsible for placing advertisements on the said billboard denied the fact that they showed ads with similar content about Ukraine and Israel.
According to Reuters, the billboard shown in the video is located in New York (200 W 50th St, New York). The advertising company Clear Channel Outdoors, which owns the billboard, denied that it had displayed a video with similar content. “The ad has never appeared on the screens.” – the representative of the company told Reuters.
In addition, on November 14, a user of X (formerly Twitter) posted a video (archive link) showing only cartoon “trolls” being advertised on the mentioned billboard.
Notably, the phrase “Stay in trend” which appears on the billboard at the end of the video – is misspelled and there is no information that ABC News has ever used such a slogan.
The video has also been verified and labelled as fake by foreign fact-checking organizations (1;2;3).
