On November 26, lawyer Irakli Zakareishvili published a video of a Palestinian prisoner. According to the author, Jews inflicted severe injuries on the woman depicted in the video. “The Jews disfigured her and cut her fingers” – states the description of the video.
The video is being disseminated with the wrong description. The video depicts the experience of a Palestinian female prisoner, Israa Jaabis, at an appeals court hearing. In the video, Israa says that Israel restricted her right to receive proper medical care while in prison, although she suffered severe burns and injuries on her body not in prison, but as a result of an explosion in her car in 2015.
A Palestinian woman was arrested by Israeli police in 2015 after an explosion in her car near a checkpoint near Jerusalem. According to Israeli law enforcement agencies, Israa Jaabis deliberately caused the explosion after the police asked her to stop the car. The explosion also injured a Palestinian woman and a police officer.
According to the Israeli side, the goal of Israa Jaabis was to organize a terrorist act on the territory of Israel. According to the case file, Jaabis had a handwritten letter with her when she was arrested, in which she expressed her support for Palestinian suicide terrorists. In 2016, Jaabis was sentenced to 11 years in prison for attempted murder. Israa Jaabis herself did not admit the charges brought against her. According to Jaabis, the explosion was caused by a technical malfunction of the car.
During her imprisonment, she applied several times to the Israel Penitentiary Service for surgical treatment of her facial injuries but was refused surgery. According to the definition of the Penitentiary Service, surgical services are provided to prisoners only if their health is in danger and do not include cosmetic surgery. According to them, Jaabis underwent two operations on her hands during her imprisonment.
Israa is one of 39 Palestinian prisoners who were released from an Israeli prison on the second day of a prisoner exchange agreement between Israel and Hamas.
