On March 13, the digital edition of the newspaper “Akhali Taoba” published the information with the headline “Ekaterine Tikaradze will not be vaccinated with AstraZeneca”. The article contains the comment from Ekaterine Tikaradze stating she will not use her status and receive a vaccine before the citizens who need it the most.

Article of “Akhali Taoba” was shared by the magazine “Sarke” Facebook page and in the public groups including “პრემიერ-მინისტრი გიორგი გახარიას მხარდამჭერები” (Supporters of Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia” and “კორონავირუსი/Covid-19 ერთად დავამარცხოთ.” (“Let’s defeat the Coronavirus/COVID-19 together”).

The headline of the article by “Akhali Taoba” is disinformation since the Health Minister made no such statement. In the comment given in the article, Ekaterine Tikaradze speaks about the fact that she will not use her official position during the vaccination rollout, which does not mean she refuses the AstraZeneca vaccine.

After Georgia received the first 43 200 doses of COVID-19 AstraZeneca vaccine on March 13, Ekaterine Tikaradze stated that she doesn’t plan to get vaccinated yet and will only receive the shot if necessary since some people need the vaccine more than her. In her statement, Tikaradze didn’t specify the manufacturing company of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Ekaterine Tikaradze, March 13: “I will try not to use my status. I will not use the privilege when the vaccine can be much more effective to others. However, I will not refuse the vaccination if it becomes necessary for the campaign”.

Not only does Tikaradze not refuse the AstraZeneca vaccine, but she also noted today that there’s no reason to question the quality of AstraZeneca vaccine brought to Georgia

COVID-19 vaccination for medical personnel in Georgia will launch on March 15 in the selected 82 medical establishments. Web-page booking.moh.gov.ge for the medics’ registration is already up and running.
