On September 28, Russian-language Facebook accounts (1, 2) published a post, according to which the Ukrainian post office issued a series of stamps dedicated to veteran of the SS “Galicia” Yaroslav Gunka.
The stamps depicted in the circulated photo were not issued by the Ukrainian Post and are fabricated. Ukrposhta noted that the photo is fake and the company doesn’t have any plans to issue similar stamps.
Ukrainian fact-checking platform StopFake contacted Ukrposhta for a comment regarding the disseminated information. Ukrposhta refuted the allegations, stating that there were no plans to create a stamp featuring Yaroslav Gunek or any related imagery. Ukrposhta emphasized that all official postage stamps can be verified on their official website. A review of Ukrposhta’s latest stamp releases prove that there is no evidence of any stamps dedicated to the SS “Galicia.”
On September 25, stamps officially announced by Ukrposhta were posted by company’s general director Igor Smelyansky on his Facebook page, Stamp is dedicated to the “Weapon of Victory.” This stamp commemorates the receipt of new weapons from foreign partners and reaching the headquarters of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in Crimea. Notably, the stamp features military equipment such as the Challenger 2, Leopard 2, Patriot, CAESAR, and M2 Bradley. There is no mention of any stamp related to the SS “Galicia” veteran in the official communication channels of Ukrposhta.
