Media Development Foundation’s web-site www.mdfgeorgia.ge was among the 15 000 Georgian web-sites affected by a cyber attack on October 28, 2018.
Georgia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced at a special press-conference on February 20, that a massive cyber attack on Georgian server was carried out by Russia. US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, US Embassy, UK, Denmark, Lithuania, Kingdom of Netherlands, Australia and Poland responded to the fact. Russia’s Foreing Ministry denied the allegations and stated that Georgia has no evidence to prove the activities of the Russian agencies in its digital space and Georgia keeps demonizing Russia.
On October 28, 2019, over 15 000 government, non-profit and private web-sites were hacked in Georgia. The web-sites displayed the photo of Georgia’s ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili with an inscription “I’ll be back”. Later on, Atlantic Council’s DFR Lab established that the file injected by the hackers contained a malicious code.
