Vasadze, who established a political party \u201cUnity, Essence, Hope\u201d in 2021, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is one of the organizers of the violent demonstration against \u201cTbilisi Pride.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vasadze is a representative of Christian-Evangelical organization, the World Congress of Families (WCF), in Georgia, which opposes LGBT rights on the premise of defending \u201cnatural family.\u201d\u00a0 The World Congress of Families has ties with a Russian oligarch <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/mythdetector.ge\/en\/myth\/russian-links-world-congress-families\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Konstantin Malofeev<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who is under U.S. and European Union sanctions for the events in Crimea, also to Alexey Komov, the official representative of the World Congress of Families in Russia, who has close ties with the leader of the Eurasia Movement, Aleksandr Dugin. Levan Vasadze also has close ties with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/mythdetector.ge\/en\/myth\/dugin-certain-occasions-we-are-forced-do\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Aleksandr Dugin<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> who is often hosted by the TV channel Alt-Info.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On May 15-17, 2016, the tenth <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.radiotavisupleba.ge\/amp\/ojakhis-sitsminde-da-rusetis-interesebi\/27741333.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">jubilee congress<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> entitled &#8220;At the Crossroads of Civilization: Family &#8211; Bastion of Freedom and Universal Values&#8221; was held in Tbilisi. The organizer and host of the event was Levan Vasadze, who delivered a speech at the congress containing homophobic, anti-Western and pro-Russian sentiments.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Georgian Patriarch Ilia II, clergy and Nino Burjanadze, leader of a pro-Russian political party United Democratic Movement, also attended the event.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vasadze often attends events with Patriarch Ilia II and patriarchal locum tenen Shio Mujiri, who is a childhood friend of his.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2021, groups linked with Vasadze and the hosts of the TV channel \u201cAlt-Info\u201d were actively involved in the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/civil.ge\/?s=Tbilisi+Pride\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">violent demonstration<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> against \u201cTbilisi Pride.\u201d The demonstration resulted in physical violence against 53 journalists.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2019, ahead of Pride, Vasadze came up with the initiative to form \u201cpeople\u2019s legion\u201d in order to carry out <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/on.ge\/story\/39210-%E1%83%9A%E1%83%94%E1%83%95%E1%83%90%E1%83%9C-%E1%83%95%E1%83%90%E1%83%A1%E1%83%90%E1%83%AB%E1%83%94-%E1%83%A1%E1%83%90%E1%83%AE%E1%83%90%E1%83%9A%E1%83%AE%E1%83%9D-%E1%83%A0%E1%83%90%E1%83%96%E1%83%9B%E1%83%94%E1%83%91%E1%83%98%E1%83%A1-%E1%83%9D%E1%83%A0%E1%83%92%E1%83%90%E1%83%9C%E1%83%98%E1%83%96%E1%83%94%E1%83%91%E1%83%90%E1%83%A1-%E1%83%93%E1%83%90-%E1%83%9A%E1%83%94%E1%83%92%E1%83%98%E1%83%9D%E1%83%9C%E1%83%98%E1%83%A1-%E1%83%A8%E1%83%94%E1%83%A5%E1%83%9B%E1%83%9C%E1%83%90%E1%83%A1-%E1%83%90%E1%83%90%E1%83%9C%E1%83%9D%E1%83%9C%E1%83%A1%E1%83%94%E1%83%91%E1%83%A1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">patrolling<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> during the period of events planned by Tbilisi Pride.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The leader of yet another radical-extremist grouping with close ties to Russia and Russian Church is businessman Levan Vasadze.
