On August 11th, the Facebook user Catrine Maraneli shared a video using the following description: “Nothing hidden that will not be disclosed… CALA kills the consumers.” The video shows a person getting an injection into the arm and wearing a T-shirt with a vaccination certificate print. The video also shows the act of burning the face mask and includes the following voice message: “newest pandemic streetwear; vaxx card pocket, show the world you are ready to reintegrate into society. CALA – limited edition clothing.”

;

The description of the video is manipulative since it carries an anti-vaxx motif. In reality, the video represents an advertisement for the clothing, whose owners can show the vaccination report card using a designated pocket. The video has nothing to do with the vaccine itself.

;

CALA is an online platform uniting brands and designers. The T-shirt showcased in the video represents a piece from the Vax Card clothing brand, the creator of which is Andrew Wyatt – the co-owner and CEO of CALA. He discussed with the Business Insider how he came up with the idea to create such clothing. He recalled that he was exercising in New York when people started staring at him:

Andrew Wyatt: “I noticed that everyone I passed would glare at me and adjust their mask,” he told Insider in an email. “I thought … if only there was a way to easily show I was vaccinated.”

;

Wyatt created a T-shirt with transparent pockets that can easily contain the vaccination certificate issued by the CDC, while the lower edge of the pocket indicates the writing: “Vaccination Card.”

;

The following advertisement is created especially for these kinds of T-shirts. The scene of a model getting a vaccine is followed by the scenes of breaking the chain and burning the face masks, indicating that the owner of the T-shirt is fully vaccinated and no longer needs to wear the mask. The T-shirt is retailed at 38 USD.  Wyatt plans to produce armbands and ties of similar content.

Accordingly, the products of CALA have nothing to do with the vaccines per se and did not cause anyone’s death either.

It is essential to mention that due to the spread of the “Delta variant,” CDC still recommends fully vaccinated people to wear face masks indoors in public if one is located in an area of substantial or high transmission. Wearing a mask is still mandatory in public transport, airplanes and trains, airports and railway stations.
