On May 10, 2023, a Russian-language Facebook account published a video depicting Ukrainian President Zelenskyy’s visit to Kherson. In the video, Zelenskyy greets several people who are watching from the window of an apartment building, after which the people curse at Zelenskyy and call him homophobic slurs.

The video footage used in the post is distributed with altered audio. In fact, the citizens of Kherson neither curse Zelenskyy nor refer to him with homophobic slurs. In the authentic video, it can be heard clearly that the people are saying the famous Ukrainian phrase “Слава України,” [Glory to Ukraine] while Zelenskyy and his entourage respond with “Героям слава” [Glory to the heroes].

The disseminated video is altered using computer software, as the sound of swearing are added to it manually. In the authentic video, citizens can be heard loudly chanting the famous Ukrainian phrase – “Слава України!” [Glory to Ukraine], while Volodymyr Zelenskyy and those with him answer – Героям слава! (Glory to the heroes).

The video was recorded in November 2022, when the President of Ukraine visited Kherson, which was then newly liberated from Russian armed forces.
