On July 15th, Giorgi Kardava – one of the hosts of the Alt-Info program “Alt-Analytica,” discussed the quality of the American democracy, emphasizing that the U.S. does not have the moral right to dictate the principles of democracy to other nations. To support his claim, Kardava stated that the U.S. elections were rigged in support of Joe Biden, who is not recognized as the legitimate president by half of the American population. Kardava pointed out that the number of shootings in Chicago has increased by 70 per cent compared to Trump’s administration period. Kardava names the lesbian mayor of Chicago as the reason for this increase.

Giorgi Kardava: “Our democracy is being criticized by the country, in which the elections were rigged. Half of the American population still considers Biden as illegitimate. In Chicago, I watched it some time ago, the number of shootings has increased by 70% compared to Trump’s time. This is because they have a lesbian mayor. She is a very serious cadre.”

The statement of Kardava includes several manipulations and false facts. Despite the statements of Donald Trump and his team, no official evidence has been found regarding the fabrication of the U.S. election results. The statement that Biden is considered illegitimate by half of the U.S. population also lacks evidence. As for shootings in Chicago, the number has indeed increased, but not by 70%.

  • What does the Crime Statistics in Chicago look like?

The Sun-Times has published the statistics for the first six months of 2021, displaying that in this period, 336 murders have occurred in Chicago, which is two units more than that of 2020, but 33% more than that of 2019. According to the statistics, until June 28th, 2021, Chicago has witnessed 1892 shootings, which exceeds that of 2020 by 12% and not 70%.

The graph of BBC displays the murder rate in Chicago as of June 20th, 2021 and accordingly, the years 2017-2020.

The growth of the crime rate was addressed by the Governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo, who linked the increase with the global pandemic and declared an emergency regarding the crimes associated with arms. The pandemic has also increased the sales of guns, which could have potentially impacted the increased numbers of armed violence.

As for Lori Lightfoot, before taking on the role of the mayor of Chicago, she held the position of the President of Chicago Police Board and the chair of the Chicago Police Accountability Task Force. Connecting the increased crime rate with her sexual identity and thus questioning her competency is discriminatory and manipulative.

  • Does half of the U.S. population consider Biden as illegitimate?

Kardava did not specify the source behind his statement. Nonetheless, before it got removed, the web page of Alt-Info had published the results of the Rasmussen Reports survey. The survey claims that 55% of voters support election audits. The survey was carried out on June 20-21, 2021 and included 900 respondents. Another study of the same company claims that only 49% considers the work of Biden as positive, while another 49% as unfavourable. Rasmussen Reports was founded in 2003 by Scott Rasmussen, who was accused of bias in support of the Republican Party. The claim was denied by the organization.

As for the legitimacy of Biden’s presidency, most of the lawsuits regarding the fabrication of the election results filed by the Republican Party to the state and supreme courts were in most of the cases not even registered, while the remaining were unsuccessful.

Unfounded information regarding the fabrication of the U.S. election results was circulated in the Georgian media network earlier. For more details, see the related articles published by Myth Detector:
