On June 17, Catrine Maraneli published a video on her Facebook account. In the description, it indicated that in Idaho, United States, schools started to vaccinate adolescents without their parents’ consent and military are overseeing the process.
The claim that vaccination without parents’ consent was launched in Idaho is disinformation. In fact, adolescents are only vaccinated against COVID-19 in Idaho voluntarily, with parents’ or guardian’s consent being necessary for those aged 12-17.
According to the information on the website of Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, only Pfizer vaccine can be used in adolescents aged 12-17. A consent from parents or a guardian is mandatory for them, except the cases when adolescents meet the criteria for a waiver from this requirement or the court has granted a permit to them which ensures their own consent.
On May 28, a mobile vaccination clinic was organized by Panhandle Health District at Canfield Middle School, where local families and, possibly pupils with their parents’ or guardian’s consent, could get vaccinated. In addition, the trained military have been aiding the vaccination process in the US since January 2021, therefore, their presence on the territory is not surprising.
In parallel to this event, locals organized a protest against vaccinating adolescents. News agency 4 News Now and its journalist, Destiny Richards, reported on this story via Twitter.
As Richards claimed, the parents, who protested the vaccination process, believed that children should not get vaccinated and that this violated parents’ rights.
The video, published by Catrine Maraneli, was initially shared on May 30 by a YouTube channel North Idaho exposed with a title Idaho National Guard facilitate site at middles school for Panhandle Health, however, the description to the video does not indicate that the vaccination was being carried out without parents’ consent.
On June 15, another YouTube channel, Капитан Корабля (Captain of a ship), shared a video on this story with a misleading title ВОЕННЫЕ В США, ДЕТЯМ вливают жижинацию В ШКОЛЕ! Вы думаете так не будет у нас? (Soldiers are transfusing zhizhination to children at school! Do you think it will not happen with us?). The word zhizhination is a portmanteau for vaccination which is sometimes used in Russian language.
