On September 20, Facebook page “სირცხვილის კორიდორი” (Corridor of Shame) reported that Eduard Saakashvili, the son of Georgia’s ex-President Mikheil Saakashvili, allegedly commented on the June 20 developments on his Twitter page, calling for public mobilization against the government and pledging to lead youth organizations. The material does not involve the Twitter screenshot and represents a written post only, liked and commented by about 300 users. The post went viral online.

The information spread by Corridor of Shame is false because Eduard Saakashvili himself denies making any such statement. Moreover, the primary source has not published any screenshot from Saakashvili’s Twitter to prove its authenticity. Such manipulation aims at linking the anti-occupation rally “It’s a Shame” to Ex-President Saakashvili and his family and portraying the youth protest as orchestrated.

Eduard Saakashvili responded to fake reports through his Facebook page, noting that this “political statement” has been fabricated.

Eduard Saakashvili: “If I ever decide to come to politics (I do not intend), I will not do it with such a senseless statement.”

This is the second story falsified by Corridor of Shame. On September 13, the Facebook page published fake reports using the name of online media outlet Batumelebi, without indicating a respective link to the source of information. According to the Facebook post, the son of Salome Samadashvili of the United National Movement was studying at Moscow State University, where his tuition fee exceeded USD 20,000, whereas the tuition fee of Giga Bokeria’s daughter was GEL 16,451.

For detailed information, see the material released by the Myth Detector “Corridor of Shame Falsified Information Using the Name of Batumelebi.”

The page Corridor of Shame was created on May 21, 2019 and it mainly publishes posts discrediting political opponents of the ruling Georgian Dream party.

The page periodically voices the ruling team’s messages and discredits the anti-occupation rallies.
