On May 14, 2017, Obieqtivi TV dedicated its program “Okros Kveta” (Golden Ratio) to the issue of World War II. Valeri Kvaratskhelia, the host of the program, named the policy of the United States and Great Britain as an important cause of World War II, saying that the two countries got involved in the war only after its fate was already decided in favor of the Soviet Union.

The United States and Great Britain have played an extremely grave role in unleashing World War II, because they encouraged Hitler, they financed Hitler and they struggled against the Soviet Union not only as the state, but as the Soviet Union, which was the socialist state… When the fate of the war was actually decided, they got involved on the Soviet Union’ side and misappropriated this huge victory through their presence in this façade coalition.
Political analyst Hamlet Chipashvili, who was invited to the same program, said that in frames of the Tehran Conference, Roosevelt and Churchill rejected Stalin’s proposal to open the second front.

During World War II, when Stalin was insistently requesting both Roosevelt and Churchill, especially at the Tehran Conference, to open the second front, they did not agree and why? If the Soviet Union crossed the old border and moved to European countries and a threat would emerge about reaching the Atlantic Ocean, they would agree to open the second front and they actually acted so, but this second front proved to be an absolutely theatrical show because the fate of the war was already decided in favor of the Red Army.
The statements made by Valeri Kvaratskhelia and Hamlet Chipashvili are false and do not reflect factual circumstances of World War II.
1. Great Britain and the United States got involved in the war in 1939 and 1941, respectively. In 1939 Stalin and Hitler signed a non-aggression pact.
In 1939, despite the British ultimatum to cease military operations, German troops invaded Poland and subsequently Britain and France announced that they were at war with Germany. While these two countries were fighting against the Nazi Germany, the Soviet Union signed the so called Molotov–Ribbentrop Non-Aggression Pact with Hitler. Just this Pact gave Germany the green light for invading Poland. In addition, on September 17, 1939 the Soviet Union got involved in the war as Germany’s ally and occupied those territories of eastern Poland, which, according to the Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact, fell under the Soviet sphere of influence.
Since the 1940s, Great Britain, along with France, Denmark, Norway, Belgium and Luxembourg, became the main figure fighting against Germany and its allies. In 1940, air battles were conducted between Great Britain and Germany in British air space.
2. Britain and the United States did not finance Hitler; they financed the USSR that played a decisive role in the outcomes of the war
After Germany attacked the Soviet Union in 1941, Great Britain sent to the Soviet Union 40 Hawker Hurricanes with 550 mechanical engineers and No. 151 Wing pilots in order to render assistance to Soviet pilots. In the period between 1941 and 1945, Great Britain supplied to the Soviet Union 3 000 aircrafts, 5 218 tanks, 5 000 weapons, 27 battle ships, 4 338 radio equipment, etc. In addition, 4 million tons of foodstuffs and medical supplies were also sent.
As far as the United States is concerned, after Germany attacked Britain and Pearl Harbor was bombed in the United States, the latter not only built up its military armament, but also started to render financial aid to the opponents of Germany and its allies. Under the 1941 Lend-Lease Act, the United States supplied foodstuffs, oil, battle planes and ships, as well as weapons to France, Great Britain, China and Soviet Union until 1945. The United States supplied to the Soviet Union 427 284 trucks, 13 303 battle vehicles, 35 170 motorcycles, 2 670 371 tons of oil and petrol, 4 478 116 tons of foodstuffs, etc. In total, the United States spent USD 11.3 billion (presently equivalent to USD 150 billion) on rendering aid to the Soviet Union. Thus, it helped the Soviet Union during the whole war from 1941 to 1945 from both military and financial points of view that significantly influenced and actually decided the fate of World War II.
3. As a result of the Tehran Conference, the United States, Britain and USSR agreed to open the second front that actually played a decisive role in the outcomes of the war
The 1943 Tehran Conference was a meeting between U.S. President Franklin Roosevelt, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, and Soviet Premier Joseph Stalin. The conference aimed to agree on common goals and reach a consensus on the end of the war and subsequent political steps. Among other issues, the sides agreed to open the second front, because it was more difficult to defeat Germany only on the Eastern Front. The fact that the second front was opened only a year later does not indicate at the resistance of western countries to open the front. On the contrary, during the Tehran Conference Franklin Roosevelt, on behalf of the United States, expressed support to the Soviet Union in opening the second front that was fulfilled in 1944. Great Britain also joined the process.
