Disinformation about Nadezhda Savchenko moving to Russia

On December 25, The Georgian Times and nsp.ge disseminated information piece, titled “Nadezhda Savchenko moves to Russia due to Private Security Reasons”. According to the publication, a member of the Parliament of Ukraine (Verkhovna Rada), Nadezhda Savchenko was planning to leave Ukraine together with her family due to private security reasons. The article states BBC as its source as well as cites Nadezhda Savchenko, that she moves to Russia because it is safe, with familiar language and jobs and that Russia is not Europe where meanness and sodomy persist.

The given information is fake.

1.Neither BBC nor any other Western edition has published information about Nadezhda Savchenko moving to Russia.

2.The article gives a link which redirects to the main page of BBC, where the information related to Savchenko cannot be found. The last material concerning Nadezhda Savchenko was published on November 2, 2016 on the English webpage of BBC. In this article, Savchenko recalls, how photos of dishes prepared by a British celebrity, Jaime Olliver, helped her during the hunger strike. The last information about Nadezhda Savchenko on the Russian webpage of BBC was published on December 22, 2016. This article just explains that Savchenko had been removed from Ukraine’s delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).

3. Unproved information about Savchenko moving to Russia was published on December 23-24 on Russian websites cont.ws, x-true.infoPravda-tv.ru and others. As in Georgian publications, Russian articles also noted that Savchenko was moving to Russia according to BBC and brought her fake citation: „Я вывезу всех в Россию – там безопасно, понятный язык и есть работа. Причины очевидны. Россия – не Европа, где есть одна подлость и содомия.” (“I will move everybody to Russia – it is safe there, the language is clear and there are jobs. The reasons are evident. Russia is not Europe where meanness and sodomy persist.”).

About Nadezhda Savchenko

A former military pilot of the Ukrainian Air Forces, Nadezhda Savchenko, was busted by pro-Russian separatists in Eastern Ukraine in June 2014. The Russian side blamed the pilot in murder of two Russian journalists, while Donetsk court sentenced her to 22 years in prison. In December 2014, Savchenko announced hunger strike in protest of unlawful detention. The detention of Savchenko has received a lot of attention from the international society. Different cities held manifestation to support her. On May 25, 2016, Vladimir Putin pardoned Nadezhda Savchenko, while the Ukrainian side freed two Russian militaries in exchange. Since November 2014, Nadezhda Savchenko has been a member of the Parliament of Ukraine (Verkhovna Rada).
