On January 14, click-bait online edition publishers.ge published the information with the title “Biden’s shocking statement about Saakashvili goes viral”. Information cites civic activist and National Movement supporter Zviad Kuprava and notes that Joe Biden administration called for fair elections and afterward, peaceful transfer of power in Georgia.  publishers.ge cites Kuprava’s Facebook post of January 10 stating that this was the first statement made by President Biden administration. The post has photos of Mikheil Saakashvili and Joe Biden attached.

Information disseminated by the publishers.ge alleging that Biden made a shocking statement about Saakashvili and spoke about the peaceful transfer of power in Georgia is false because Biden’s such statement cannot be found in open sources. Democrat Gregory Meeks’ words were manipulated. In an interview with the “Voice of America”, Meeks generally spoke about the necessity of fair and free elections in Georgia and through it, the importance of peaceful transfer of power. Attaching photos of Biden and Saakashvili to the publication gives off the impression as if Biden specifically implied transition of power to Saakashvili.

On January 9, “Voice of America” interviewed the chairman of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs, Gregory Meeks. The interview was mainly about current issues in the U.S. At the end of the interview, the journalist overviewed current political processes in Georgia and when Asked what Georgian politicians should focus on, Meeks answered the following:

Gregory Meeks: “They should focus on ensuring fair and free elections and after the elections take place, the peaceful transfer of power should be ensured. Change is brought by the power of voices of united people”.

Meeks emphasized the importance of united people in building democracy and ensuring democratic processes.

In his Facebook post, Zviad Kuprava notes that disseminated information is the first statement of Biden administration, which is false since Biden nominated the members of his administration but it’s yet to be confirmed by congress. Therefore, the administration couldn’t have made a statement. As for the comment of Gregory Meeks, it’s manipulatively disseminated by Kuprava, as well as publishers.ge
