Tamar Kintsurashvili
Tamar Kintsurashvili is the executive director of the Media Development Foundation (MDF) and the editor-in-chief of fact-checking online portal Myth Detector, third-party partner of Facebook’s fact-checking program and a verified signatory of the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) of the Poynter Institute.

Tamar runs media literacy programs for youngsters and teachers. She is a member of Deutsche Welle Akademie Media and Information Literacy Experts Network (MILEN) and the UNESCO MIL Alliance nomination committee.

Tamar is an author and co-author of numerous research papers and publications on Russian information warfare in Ukraine, Anti-Gender and Anti-LGBTQI Mobilization in Georgia, Infodemic, anti-Western propaganda, Kremlin Influence Index, media literacy and media self-regulation.

Prior to joining MDF, she served as a deputy secretary of the National Security Council of Georgia in 2010-2013. She was responsible for civil integration policy development. Previously, Kintsurashvili was the first elected general director of the Georgian Public Broadcaster (2005-2009) and deputy director of the CSO Liberty Institute (2002-2005).

Tamar Kintsurashvili is associate professor at Ilia State University. She received an MSc in policy studies from Edinburgh University and MA in journalism from Tbilisi State University.

This report is the analysis of the results of a-year-long monitoring conducted by the Media Development Foundation (MDF) throughout 2017. The monitoring aimed at studying the typology of anti-Western messages and fake news in the Georgian media. The subjects of monitoring were media outlets as well as other sources – politicians, clergy, civil organizations and representatives of society.
