On November 6, a Facebook page Facts published the post of the Facebook user Ilia Kobaidze depicting the photo of representatives of the LGBT community with the following inscription: “Youth wing of United Opposition”.  Photo’s caption appeals to people to join the opposition protest planned on Sunday, November 8 using the following words: “Come out to the protest rally on Sunday!!! Let’s save the “homeland”!!! Come out to Rustaveli!!! Come out for Misha!!! Spread the word!!!”

The disseminated post is manipulative and attempts to link the protest over the rigged election to the LGBT community.  People in the photo aren’t the youth wing of the United Opposition, they are representatives of the Georgian LGBT community who participated in New York’s Gay Pride in 2016.

The photo that the Facebook page “Facts” shared citing Ilia Kobaidze was taken at New York’s Gay Pride in 2016 and was published by Davit Shubladze on his Facebook page on June 26, 2016.

The photo depicts LGBT community representatives who aren’t related to the youth wing of United Opposition.

Dissemination of the mentioned photo in a manipulative context aims to divert attention from November 8 protest over the rigged election to the LGBT community.

Opposition protesting rigged 2020 parliamentary elections announced a large-scale protest rally on November 8.

About the source

Facebook page Facts has a profile photo of the ultranationalist Facebook platform Alt-info’s logo with the inscription “In solidarity with Alt-info”. On October 23, Facebook removedaccounts connected to Alt-info.

„Myth Detector“ has previously revealed the Facebook page “Facts” part in the campaign to discredit the opposition, when the decision to vote down the proportional system triggered the opposition’s protest outside the parliament building in 2019. Facts was among the pages that disseminated identical articles to discredit the protest in short intervals indicating that it was all coordinated. It’s worth mentioning that in 2019 the aforesaid page manipulated the issue of identity by portraying the participants of the protest as people who fight against the church.

Myth Detector has previously revealed other disinformation disseminated by Facts.
