“In Georgia and around the world, Meta partners with independent third-party fact-checkers certified through the non-partisan International Fact-Checking Network & European Fact-Checking Standards Network. The independent fact-checkers, not Meta employees, determine what content to rate. These allegations are false and dangerous.” – Meta spokesperson.

Media Development Foundation (MDF) launched its fact-checking platform – Myth Detector – in 2014, to uncover the truth behind the lies, explore hidden agendas, raise the level of media literacy, and inform both people and institutions of Georgia about the impacts of disinformation.

Since November 2019, Myth Detector has been a verified signatory of the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) of the Poynter Institute. Since June 2023, “Myth Detector” is a member of the European Fact-Checking Standards Network (EFCSN), which is an association of more than 40 independent fact-checking organizations from 27 countries. The verified membership of the mentioned networks confirms that “Myth Detector” meets one of the most stringest requirements that exist in the global media sector in terms of transparency, ethics, and investigative methodology.

Since 2016, MDF has been cooperating with EUvsDisinfo – the flagship project of the European External Action Service’s East StratCom Task Force and is a member of the Open Information Partnership (OIP) bringing together think tanks, fact-checkers, independent media, and grassroots organizations to support efforts to counter hostile information influence operations.

Both IFCN and EFCSN condemn the harassment of “FactCheck Georgia” and “Myth Detector” and reject claims that their accreditation process was made by “lobbying” or any other form of undue influence.

Since September 2020, “FactCheck Georgia” and “Myth Detector” are members of the Meta’s Fact-Checking Program and adhere to the principles of the International Fact-Checking Network and the policies of Meta’s Fact-Checking Program.
