6 Anti-NATO messages on the 70th Anniversary of the Alliance

Anti-NATO messages on the 70th Anniversary of the alliance, celebrated on April 4, intensified once again in Georgia. Different groups were trying to portray NATO in a negative context. Among them were politicians, Georgian-language pro-Kremlin editions, Russian Media and ultra-leftist Facebook pages.

During the period of celebration of the 70th anniversary of NATO messages revived anew by these actors, aiming to disseminate skepticism towards the NATO integration, as if Georgia does not have a perspective of joining NATO; in this regard, the existence of occupied territories was identified as one of the hindering factors; whereas the only way of conflict resolution was named cooperation with Russia, refusing to join NATO. There were also the statements, as if the sum spent by Georgia in defense sphere is not a resource allocated to the collective security, but - to NATO. In addition, NATO was portrayed as the reason of threat, conflicts and terrorism during its 70-year history, which escalates security environment in the region by provoking Russia.
